The Effectiveness of Proprioceptive and Relaxation Exercises in Decreasing Pain in Patients with Chronic Low Back Pain

Pain is the most common physical sign with which physicians and patients encounter and it consists of a variety of symptoms. Low back pain is one of the most pervasive types of pain from which millions of people all around the world suffer. In this regard, the objective of the present study was to investigate the effectiveness of proprioceptive and relaxation exercises in decreasing pain in patients with chronic low back pain.
Methods and Materials: The people under study included 60 male and female patients with chronic low back pain selected using the convenience sampling method whom were divided into two 30-individual groups through applying the matching technique. To form the groups, using the random sampling method, half of the participants were placed in the experimental group and the other half were placed in the control group. Therefore, the participants of this study were 30 people with low back pain whom were considered as the experimental group and 30 people in the control group. To evaluate the variable of pain, the McGill Pain Questionnaire was applied. To analyze the obtained data, the mixed between-within subjects ANOVA was used and the level of significance was considered With considering appropriate precautions, prescribing proprioceptive and relaxation exercises can reduce the level of pain in patients with chronic low back pain. Conducting proprioceptive and relaxation exercises for 30 days lead to a significant reduction in the level of pain in the experimental group compared to the control group.
